Autbahn – Fresh Fonts:
I absolutely love this typeface, in all its wit and playfulness. Aptly named Heldentica (just when we thought no more modern Helvetica typefaces could be made) this typeface has been created with toothpaste on an acrylic screen, scanned in and made into letters digitally. I picked this to present in research as I believe it is a ‘at home craft’ – anybody could use toothpaste to make typography and I love how outside the box this is in terms of thinking.
Materials I can use at home (due to Covid-19):
I literally began this project with the word ‘sponge’ which was in my top ten list from the webinar last week. It’s one of my favourite words and I actually absolutely love sponges in terms of texture. I love the idea of absorbing information like a sponge.
This made me think of where sponges are used. In my case, bathing and washing up. So then that lead to bubbles. There is a fascinating formation of iridescence on bubbles (which I’ve always loved!) and I decided to take some of my own pictures (see below):

Blurred – reminds me of space
Reflecting light to create rainbow
Pollution is a really nice way of taking this project if I was able to go outdoors and take photos of oil spills/vehicle oils etc. However due to current Covid-19 circumstances I wanted to take this project in a different direction:

Procreate drawing of large bubble photograph above (last image)
I have been drawing the outlines of the bubble photographs I took and really like the visual effect of multiple layering of circles to create an overall textural piece of art.
I have been thinking about bubbles, and the phrases such as ‘you’re in my bubble’ in regards to personal space, and ‘burst someone’s bubble’ in regards to cutting their excitement short for some reason. As of recently, due to Covid-19 society has had to isolate and stay at home. When we do have to go out (for food/medicine for example), we are technically having to stay 2 metres apart from other people. This to me, is everyone having their own bubbles.
I’m picturing this week’s outcome as being particularly scientific. I think there is a wonderful connection between these bubble drawings and scientific cell images:
