Week 8

The workshop

I want to start creating concepts based informed by the types of creative activities that encourage a mixture of learning outcomes i.e. how to tackle problems independently and communicate effectively with other designers.

Problem solving activities

  • Create a 4 word sentence/phrase/question, demonstrating emphasis on each word to create a different meaning
  • Create a newspaper page (cover, contents, image) using the printouts provided
  • Redesign your favourite film title
  • Give everyone a double page/double sided piece of newspaper, recreate an article that interests you
  • On the printout of the word ‘typography’, circle as many different typography terms that you can think of in 10 minutes

Interactive activities

  • Create a logo of your initials inspired by textures from your surroundings
  • When outside of your building, walk for 20 seconds in any direction. Stop. Document your location (take rubbings, illustrate, collect findings)
  • Using a pencil draw an object in the room in a single line. Do not remove the pencil off the page until you are complete

Collaborative activities

  • In pairs: what do you notice about your partner? Draw a logo representing them.
  • As a team, create a flyer advertising something that you would be happy posting through someone’s door
  • In groups of 5, create a 10 page picture book
  • Using only shapes, create a team poster
  • Using only 2 colours, create as many shades as possible. Team with highest amount wins

The format

The big issue I want to explore in the next stage of the project is how I am going to present my workshop pack. I have several ideas around the presentation of the pack and this week I want to explore:

  • Business/playing cards format: activities will be displayed on the cards and selected at random.
  • One large box: all contents inside will be provided for the workshop, handouts, stationery, merchandise even? As this would be costly and larger items; only one per group

• Individual packs: brochure format only for each individual. Transportable, recyclable, and cost effective
