Week 3

Task 2 – Breaking boundaries:

I have chosen Bulk Barn rebranding as my boundary breaking piece of design. I feel that this rebrand encompasses several categories that were used for D&AD awards:
• Typography
• Branding
• Packaging
• Photography
• Promotional
• Infographics
• Marketing
• Website Design

I personally love the simplicity of this rebrand, the contrasting bold lettering with the playful, colourful imagery is visually striking. There is an organic feel to the brand, with packaging being transparent and presenting edible contents. The rebrand is modern in more ways than one. It’s appealing to the modern lifestyle through the company hosting a website and app for the customer, and uses modern infographics with a consistent sans-serif font throughout.

Comprehensive design

Definition of comprehensive:

“of large scope; covering or involving much; inclusive: a comprehensive study of world affairs. Comprehending or thoroughly understanding with one’s mind; having an extensive mental range or grasp, as of a particular subject or many subjects.”

Due to the rebrand covering a large amount of modern day graphic design categories, I have decided to call my new term “comprehensive design”. I have chosen this as I feel being a contemporary designer requires being educated on current design trends, and adapting where necessary. This process is comprehensive in itself as we are having to work in a constantly evolving profession. Clients are also affected by this as they are having to outdo competitors who are advancing, and will require a designer with extensive knowledge to transform their brand.
