SWOT development from week 17
To ensure I check back in on my progress and developments from week 17 I am going to review the below and add my progress in green:
Strengths
- Modern day research, process and procedures surrounding sustainability
- The main fundamental problem surrounding the industry has been identified, and I have been able to zone in on improvement ideas
- Report structure is made, 3000 words so far
- Report is approx 5000 words (with 10% allowed either way)
Weaknesses
- Not much research regarding sustainable manufacturers so far; how do they operate with clients? What materials do they offer? How do they go about a project request and how long does it take?
- Little bit behind (approx. 3 weeks) due to halt with writing report. Realistically need to address how much time I have and what I want to achieve in that time. I know I want a report, and a set of prototypes for experimental purposes to back up my report, as if I were ready to launch the project
- Not enough blueprinting of the customer journey – focus on this!
- Think about my brand and how I will capture clients/staff
- At the time of week writing I had not written up Aylesbury Box Company notes – so since then I have had very thorough discussions with Curtis packaging (call recorded – week 20) and Aylesbury Box Manufacturer (call not recorded – week 15) which have provided insight into industry operations from a sustainable manufacturer perspective
- Blueprints for week 14 customer journey have been further developed, included in report and refined so I know Eco-Collective customer journey step by step, phase by phase
- Considering the brand and creating trademarks, and using colours, themes (paper) to convey that sustainable message
Opportunities
- Eco-Collective can change the design industry approach to sustainability and have a huge impact
- Learning new software such as Adobe XD to help with my prototyping and experimentation, and strengthen my digital design knowledge
- A real opportunity to explore blueprinting, customer journey mapping, wayfinding and navigation within digital interfaces
- Investigate how my design is going to look and ‘feel’, set the tone, organic yet inspired by what exists (I’m thinking bio materials is a wonderful opportunity for texture here). Create moodboard!
- I have began developing my final prototype in week 15, learning about Adobe XD and working on new software
- Customer journey mapping as detailed above (week 14), along with research surrounding way-finding and navigation on websites/apps (week 15)
- Tone has started to form, colour scheme developing and bio materials (as detailed above)
Threats
- Graphic design studios that offer sustainable alternatives in-house – how would I get them included in my concept?
- Pricing for my service would be competitive against the above
- 2000 words to write and a prototype app to create, I need to stay on target from week 18 onwards in order for me to submit everything for week 21
- The brand can work with in-house designers, as manufacturers would work with them. This is clear after speaking with Curtis Packaging’s Steve about this
- Pricing brackets will be demonstrated on the website for flexibility with clients
- Report is on target so staying on track
