Week 2

Image: the two agencies and a studio are located north-west to central Milton Keynes.

It seems I have been drawn to these three business’ as they are semi-rural, and not in the city centre, and maybe this is fitting for the city itself. These are growing companies that represent the city as MK is expanding.

In summary:

WHP specialise in digital branding.
Print is #1.
10 employees.
2008.
Varied clients.

VI specialise in rebranding.
Web Design #1.
10 employees.
1989.
Global, not local clients.

Freestone specialise in print.
Brochures #1.
20 employees.
1984.
Less digital based company.

Just from exploring these three companies, it’s evident to me that design business’ are shrinking their number of employees. This is probably down to employees now being multi-skilled in various specialisms as opposed to the 1980’s (Maziar speaks about this in his lecture).

3 places for design production:

I have researched several design production places but I wanted to pick three that were different from each other.

I have submitted the following on the geo-tagging link:

Charles Rayner – screenprint and decals (vehicle wraps)
Minuteman Press – printing for design (posters, brochures, pens)
Carlton Packaging – packaging for products (boxes)

Even though these do specialise in one thing, I have noticed all of them overlap a little bit with what services they provide. This is interesting as there are obviously customer demands which they are trying to meet, as design specialisms expand.
