The idea with this is that there is an app displayed as a poster but all of the elements that it takes to run that app are displayed surrounding it; almost an animation style effect where things pop out. I think this would be good for a longer project; possibly a bit too involved to finish in 2 weeks.

Using the crystallise filter on the image in Photoshop
I think this concept is effective, I like the element of it folding up to make a large poster. This could be scaled up to be A4 when folded and very large; or alternatively very tiny! Scale could be quite fun to play about with this. There’s a particular way this design can enhance the image when it opens out which could work if I’m using mineral photography, or images with lots of detail i.e. concrete poetry. I need to consider this style layout for future projects if I don’t pick it for this one.
Using Fluorite as the background lettering texture (which is also present in phones)
I tried creating a phone mock-up which I’m not massively impressed with, I think the t-shirts are far more effective. People are likely to read those messages more than they will a phone case. The black t-shirts contrast really nicely with the gold foiling that I could use for this project, which is tempting me to pick this one. However I don’t think on their own as a project, creating t-shirts is enough. I would likely need to create a clothing merch range, or pair it with something else.
Tracing the mine photograph road lines on Procreate to leave very natural shapes.
This one was fun to do. As soon as I started this project I immediately thought of the lines in a mine and wondered what they would look like when drawn; like seashells it turns out. It definitely gives off the natural seashore vibe, but I’m not sure if this is the look I need to fit in with smartphones and mining… Still, a very inspiring illustration for a future project.
Editorial magazine
This one probably is the most basic out of all five concepts; but for this reason I’m going to pick it. The element of it being entirely customisable appeals to me for this project. I could imagine creating smartphone awareness editorial pages that would fit any magazine, therefore appealing to a huge audience. It’s versatile. My audience needs to be teenagers; so I can picture a flexible double page spread which is almost presenting a short story to the reader, highlighting the problems with the smartphone industry. It’s not just teenagers I need to consider, it’s parents too.
