SWOT analysis: do one at this stage on my project

Strengths

  • Progress
  • Impact
  • Findings/learnings
  • Intrinsic value of what I have done for myself

Weaknesses

  • Communication and sending the message
  • Power to persuade convincing people
  • Addressing a research question
  • Feasibility, is it realistic, am I achieving in the way that I want

(About what I’ve done and what I feel about my work)

Opportunities

  • Possible improvements to design elements
  • New ways to reach my audience
  • Scope for further research
  • Outcome touchpoints, have they come together how I envisaged

Threats

  • Difficulties in bringing the work together
  • Timeline to completion
  • Gaps in research
  • New knowledge and USP

(External elements – what are other people doing that affect my outcome?)

Can break these down into two positive, two negative elements

  • Could I perhaps look at XD for creating an app? – downloaded 19th Oct
  • Check in with Hannah as our projects overlap – arranged catch up for Monday 18th Oct
  • Continue report research and SWOT analysis above – completed 17th Oct

My SWOT analysis so far

Strengths

  • Modern day research, process and procedures surrounding sustainability
  • The main fundamental problem surrounding the industry has been identified, and I have been able to zone in on improvement ideas
  • Report structure is made, 3000 words so far

Weaknesses

  • Not much research regarding sustainable manufacturers so far; how do they operate with clients? What materials do they offer? How do they go about a project request and how long does it take?
  • Little bit behind (approx. 3 weeks) due to halt with writing report. Realistically need to address how much time I have and what I want to achieve in that time. I know I want a report, and a set of prototypes for experimental purposes to back up my report, as if I were ready to launch the project
  • Not enough blueprinting of the customer journey – focus on this!
  • Think about my brand and how I will capture clients/staff

Opportunities

  • Eco-Collective can change the design industry approach to sustainability and have a huge impact
  • Learning new software such as Adobe XD to help with my prototyping and experimentation, and
  • strengthen my digital design knowledge
  • A real opportunity to explore blueprinting, customer journey mapping, wayfinding and navigation within digital interfaces
  • Investigate how my design is going to look and ‘feel’, set the tone, organic yet inspired by what exists (I’m thinking bio materials is a wonderful opportunity for texture here). Create moodboard!

Threats

  • Graphic design studios that offer sustainable alternatives in-house – how would I get them included in my concept?
  • Pricing for my service would be competitive against the above
  • 2000 words to write and a prototype app to create, I need to stay on target from week 18 onwards in order for me to submit everything for week 21
