Computer arts – How to Launch and Run a Design Studio:

I found this video really insightful and really liked how honest they are. When speaking about the most two successful financial years of his career, he was actually saying he was doing work he didn’t want to do, meetings he didn’t want, and working with people he disliked. This is interesting. It goes to show that you can’t always have money, happiness and be produce good work. More often than not, there’s two out of three in various combinations that people fall into.

Sagmeister Inc:

Sagemeister’s ‘answers’ page is extremely informative. The category ‘Advice for Students’ asks the following:

Is it possible to have both, making money and doing good work?
Sagmeister: I remember a sentence in a Minale Tattersfield book that said: “In my experience, every designer whose prime aim in going into business was to make money while at the same time producing good design, failed on both counts. I believe that designing is something you have to do for love. If you are committed first and foremost to producing good design then you’ll make money as a by-product because good design is something people are willing to pay for. But that financial reward will be a bonus, a gift.” I agree.

I too, agree with this statement – if you love something you are more likely to work harder as you enjoy it and don’t see it as work. I think that goes for all day-to-day jobs that everyone does, if you don’t enjoy it what’s the point? You will always get something better for the money.

Wallace and Gromit producers hand stake in business to staff:

This set-up also means that Aardman employees control and have power over the company and its future. This is brilliant – if Aardman does well; the employees and staff get rewarded.
